THS/BHS 1999 Class Reunion

After teetering on the fence for awhile we decided to go ahead and go to my 10 year reunion. Friday evening was a BBQ for families over at Municipal Park. No pictures....forgot to pull out the camera. The BBQ was a lot of fun. It was so surreal seeing all sorts of long lost faces. I've known a lot of these people since elementary school. It was fun seeing all of the shocked expressions when I told them I had 3 kids!

Saturday we had the chance to take a tour of the school (s). Our senior class was split when the new high school was built. Tiff (one of my best friends since elementary school) and I met up at walked through Boise High. We have TONS of memories cheering for games in the old gym. We ran into Aubrey and her family. It was so much fun to see her.
After the tour we went over to a fellow THS graduate's restaurant. Blake Lingle started the Idaho Fry Company so we went over there for some lunch. It was absolutely AMAZING! Really good food!

Last night was the big shin dig over at the Grove Hotel. As we walked in we were greeted by some teachers from our past. Mrs. Trumbo was one of my all time favorite teachers. She taught 5th grade. She recognized me immediately. We were screaming and hugging....too funny. This was the only picture I got of her and she is half blinking:

It was fun to dance and visit with old friends. We ate some EXPENSIVE food that wasn't that great and pretty much just watched everyone drink up our registration money. (AND they made us pay for a soda....whatever!)

My favorite part of the weekend would have to be the night that Tiff, Kali and I got together and went through stacks of old pictures and watched our old "music videos" that we made. We would dress up in all of these outrageous outfits and make up dances to all sorts of Backstreet Boys, Shania Twain and other hit 90's songs. We laughed so hard we were rolling on the floor. Good times.

10 years...wow. Where has the time gone? Some people looked exactly the same, some looked nothing at all like they used to look, some people I remember as jerks were really nice and some jerks were still jerks.

All I know is that when the night was over and my Nate smiled and took my by the hand and led me through the door I felt so grateful that the high school days are over.

YW camp

Back from camp and all is well. (All except for my mom's walls and ottoman that Landon decided to destroy with permanent marker!)
Camp was awesome. The theme this year was "Anchor your Souls to Christ." Each ward was a "ship" and we decided to call ours the USS DOGS. (Daughters of God) We wore our hair up in pig tails to resemble dog ears and chanted "Who let the dogs out" a time or two! haha.
We had lots of fun hiking, doing service, playing games, making crafts, and performing skits. It was so beautiful up in the mountains and so strange not having to chase after little boys for a few days!
We stayed up late, ate GREAT food, and enjoyed growing closer as a YW group. I love these girls and am so grateful for the time I get to spend with them.

4th of July weekend

We have had such a GREAT holiday weekend! I've said it before and I will say it again....4th of July is my FAVORITE holiday (next to Christmas). Family, friends, fireworks, food and freedom. It doesn't get much better than that!
This year we went camping and boating with the family over at Lake Owahee. It is seriously the most incredible lake. Hardly any boats, flat and warm water (it was 81 degrees). It's a pretty sweet deal. Shhhhhh...its a secret.
Here was the view from our camp site:

And here is my sweet little boy right after he fell face first into the road and skinned his nose: Still smiling.....

After camping, we hurried home to get ready for the 4th of July BBQ and fireworks display at our house. One perk of driving over to Oregon to go boating is driving right by the "really good" fireworks stand. heehee We had lots of families come over and join us in the fun. Here is my flag made of cupcakes: YUM!

Such a fun weekend.....I'm already counting down until the next 4th! Time to get all geared up to to camping AGAIN this week but this time with the YW. I'm sure I'll be nice and sleep deprived upon my return......

Sum-Sum-Summertime!

Honestly...how did we ever live before digital cameras? I bought a Kodak one time use camera to capture the memories of the last 2 weeks and all I can say is WHAT A HASSLE!

I dropped the film off....came back in an hour and it wasn't done. I went back to pick it up today and when I put the cd only HALF of the pictures were on it. I took it back and had to go BACK yet again to pick it up an hour later. 5 of the pictures ended up being random "in the purse" shots.

I guess the pictures that I did get ARE worth it. Good thing my sweet hubby bought me a new camera today.

ANYWAY........here's what we've been up to the past couple of weeks:
My Dallin boy had his LAST day of kindergarten. He is in year round school so he didn't get out until the end of June. He had a good year and looks forward to being a little more challenged next year. I can't believe that I am going to have a 1st grader. It is going to be hard on all of us when he goes to school for the full day.
I promised the boys forever ago that on the last day of school we would have a lemonade stand. The boys have been begging me for YEARS to have one. I didn't want to let them down so we got everything together for the big sale. We were inspired by the Harris family and their ability to earn $75 at their sale by making boxes that the kids wore that said, "pick your price."

Sadly, our stand didn't even come close in profit but we did have a fun time. I think we'll do the stand every year on the last day of school. We'll make it a tradition.

Here's a breakdown of the finances:

Lemonade Stand from Bed Bath and Beyond: on clearance for $7.49

Lemonade: 3 frozen concentrates for $2.07

Ice: $1.29

Cups: $1.00

Special Lemonade Canister with nozzle $5.49

Total spent $17.34

Total Earned: $8.00

Equals out to be $-9.34. Haha! It was fun anyway! My favorite part was when Parker said, "Sheesh Mom, we are going to be rich! Don't worry, I will share some of my money with you."

This past week we went up to Sandy Point with a bunch of friends. We had such a fabulous time letting the kids play in the water and sand. Uncle Jason came along too. He's such a great help with keeping all of the kids entertained.

Yesterday we went to Roaring Springs with some friends. We didn't get season passes this year but we hope to make it over there a few times during the summer. We played hard all day and went to bed early!
We're keeping cool and staying busy! Wouldn't want it any other way!

A few more "Parker-isms" for your enjoyment....

"When I eat Jello it makes my tummy feel all woggle-ee inside."

"I am not wearing a tie to church. Dallin will laugh at me and call me a "church-guy." (Apparently being called a "church guy" is the WORST thing in the world.)

(Talking about his new summer preschool class) "I'm not going to preschool anymore. I'm going to quit...its just not for me."

"Mom, when are you going to take us to Goog-a-ly Goon?" (referring to Lagoon)

(On receiving his "Best Slugger Award" from his baseball coach) "I already knew that I was the best."

(Prayer from last week) "...And please bless that baby won't ANNOY us anymore."
P-man always has something funny to say. He is one silly kid.
Haven't been posting much this week.....my camera died. Hopefully I will get a new one this week. We have lots of fun things coming up.....the 4th (HOORAY), camping at Lake Owahee, and Girls Camp next week.
Ahhhh....Summer Lovin!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to 3 of the most important men in my life!

My own dad is such an amazing example of humility and hard work. He has ALWAYS put the Lord first in his life and I know that this is why he is such an incredible husband, father and grandpa. I am one lucky girl. I love you dad. Next we have my "other" dad. He is such a LOVING and caring person. He did a fabulous job raising a son that I love more than anything. He has always made me feel apart of the family ever since I first time I met him. He is a spiritual giant and a wonderful man. I love you Ric!

And of course we have my Nathan. I am so proud to call him the father of our children. He works so hard for us and I am amazed with his determination and drive to accomplish anything he puts his mind to. You are my everything Nathan Richard! Our boys are truly blessed to have such an incredible dad!

What is love?

Tonight as I tucked the boys into bed, I told them that I loved them. It's the same old routine every night and the boys try to come up with every excuse imaginable to prolong the experience. Usually the excuses are....

I have to go potty (again)

I need some water

I need my blanket/bunny/beaver/teddy bear/whatever stuffed animal they can think of

Where is the night light?

I forgot to brush...the list goes on and on.

Tonight though, ....Parker asked what love was. As I was racking my mind trying to come up with an answer that Parker would understand Dallin suddenly says, "I know what love is. Love is when someone hurts you. And you get so mad but you don't yell at them because you know it would hurt their feelings." Then he continued with, "Love is hugging. Love is kissing. Love is saying no sometimes."

Pretty good insight for a 6 year old.

Lake Powell 2009

We had an awesome time at Lake Powell this year. For once in our lives we had NO HICCUPS! It was a miracle! Usually every year we come across at least a few major problems but this year everything was pretty much smooth sailing! The weather was a little cooler than usual but we actually enjoyed the water being only a few degrees cooler then the air...it make the water feel really warm!

We were few in number this year as Nat and Robby stayed home as did Nate and Landon. We missed them! Here is a little picture recap:

We stayed in the same spot we did last year and had this as our view: SO beautiful!
We got some good fishing in. They boys had fishing poles (with just sinkers on...no hooks) and they spend HOURS casting out their lines and reeling it back in. They loved it! We did catch a few fish with the real fishing pole too. We got some carp and blue gill....the usual. The boys loved hanging out with their uncles. They are lucky to have such great young men to look up to! They had fun hanging out with Mason and Preston too!
The skiing/boarding/surfing/air chairing/tubing was incredible! There is no where that even compares! We were able to get Dallin to TRY ON the wakeboard....but that is about as far as he would go...poor guy. As soon as he realized he was going to have to float in the water WITH that huge thing attached to his legs he changed his mind. O well.....hopefully we'll get him out there soon.

Grandpa Rock put on quite the show as usual. I don't think there are many guys out there who have a Grandpa who can ski like he can! He is awesome! We played the 2nd annual Red Rock Challenge which was a huge hit. This years challenges included: starring contest, casting contest (furthest and most straight), American Gladiators (first to push the other one off the raft wins), root beer chugging, icky poo challenge (we used those sticky hand things...first to grab the most pieces of paper is the winner), shaving cream sculpting contest, and many more. Preston and I won! Woo woo!
We had a Mexican Fiesta one night. Uncle James cooked us up some authentic Mexican tostadas. We rocked out to some Mexican hits and enjoyed some corn on the cob smothered in mayo and cheese (insert puke noise here). The chicken was great but I wasn't a fan of the corn.
It was another great year down at Powell!

We've been going down to Powell for so many years now. Sometimes the years kind of blend together so I wanted to document a couple of things that made this trip......unique.

We saw a fish that was acting like a shark. It was swimming with its fin out of the water. Luckily we spotted the fish while we were IN the boat. If I had seen it while I was in the water I'm sure I would have been freaking out.

Next......we had a dead deer near the entrance of our canyon. We've never seen a deer before. We are thinking that a flash flood caused the deer to fall over the canyon wall and the deer probably swam over to the shore and starved since there is nothing to eat. The water was going up about 2 feet every day. As soon as the water swallowed up our deer we left that canyon......good thing. YUCK!
We had a wonderful vacation. The boys and I had such a fantastic time! THANK you Grandma Lee Lee for watching Landon for us this year! It's always nice to get away for a few days. We were so happy to come home to our hardworking Daddy!

It's that time of year again.....

Has it really already been a year?? We're off to Powell again! Summer has officially started........

To go....or not to go...that is the question.

So, my 10 year high school reunion is coming up. The money was actually due yesterday. I'm having a really hard time deciding if I want to go or not. One dear friend actually threatened to drag me by my ankles, willing or unwilling. So, maybe I am going. I have mixed feelings about it. The world of facebook has made it possible to "see" how everyone is doing with very little effort. Can we not just consider facebook a reunion and call it good? I already keep in touch with the friends that really mean something to me from the high school days.
Okay. Maybe there are a few old friends I would love to see in person. A few. So it will be ME pulling my HUSBAND along by his ankles, cause well, I can't go back to a reunion without my hot (and skinny) husband, right? I don't know why HE isn't excited about going. He has no idea how lucky he is for the opportunity to be blinded by the sheer awesomeness that is the class of 1999. Haha.
I guess I am just paranoid. I'm not the same girl I was back then.
I'm also nervous because I'm going to be gone the entire week prior to the reunion because I'll be at girls camp. My poor mom having to deal with my 3 rascals ALL week??? Yikes!

Did you go to your ten year high school reunion? Was it worth the effort? Should I go to mine?
