Hi there. Remember me? It has been awhile. We're FINALLY up and running again thanks to our friend and neighbor Ben! It's so nice to have friends who understand all things computer. ☺ Feels like I haven't written anything in FOREVER!
We're back from our Thanksgiving in Utah. We had a great time......minus the 24 stomach flu bug that Parker apparently picked up the DAY we left for Utah. He was so kind to share it with MANY family members over the course of the week. Yuck.
The boys and I left a little bit early so we could hang out with EE. My parents and brother came down on Tuesday so we we decided to go over to Tracy Aviary for the morning.
On Thursday, my whole family got together and we took a family picture....or at least attempted to with my not-so-fancy camera. It's SO hard to get everyone together these days!
Later on that afternoon we headed to the Starnes family and spent a wonderful Thanksgiving over there. Lee (as always) did such a fantastic job making sure everything was just perfect.
We played games:
And joined in the madness that IS BLACK FRIDAY!:
We only stayed out until 2 am this year which was actually quite nice. I was liking that the stores opened at 10:00!
We had all sorts of plans to do fun things but with everyone dropping like flies with the Parker FLU....we did a lot of hanging out around the house which was actually quite nice. Saturday night we did go down to the lights at Thanksgiving Point.
We also spent time with life long friends, did some shopping, went out to lunch, and definitely made some life long memories. We have AMAZING families and it isn't very often that we get to see ALL of them on the same trip!

So much to post, yet no internet at home and were still working on getting it up and running soon. I'm getting behind in my blogging and it stresses me out! Hopefully we will get it figured out by the time we get back from Utah next week!
We're off to see lots of family and friends to celebrate the holiday of thanks. We are so blessed and have so much to the thankful for.
Here is the annual Starnes Family 2011 gratitude turkey:

Crazy weekend.
So, what idiot thought that signing up all 3 boys for sports was a great idea? Our lives have been taken over by all things sports, games, practices, driving driving and more driving.
Landon's games and practices are during the week. He LOVES to play with his little buddy and preschool friend Mason. He seems to enjoy waving to us on the sidelines as much as he enjoys playing the actual game. It's pretty darn cute.
Saturday Nate was out of town. Actually he was out HUNTING in the mountains. Yes, you heard me right. HUNTING. He was hunting on HORSEBACK. Anyone seen my husband lately? Surely the California raised surfing guy who hates hurting wildlife wouldn't go out and shoot an unsuspecting beautiful God created animal. Actually, he went with one of the law partners and some friends and THANKFULLY they didn't even see any animals at all. He had a really great time riding the horses through streams and up and over beautiful snow covered mountains. I was secretly a little jealous.
Jealous why? Well, I'll tell you. Nate left me do deal with all the sports by myself! Actually, James and Sierra came down and were ready to help out thank heavens. We had kind of a disastrous day though.
Saturday morning my phone decided to implode. I had to go to two different stores first thing in the morning and then I was on the phone for over 2 hours getting it up and running again. Then we BLITZED over to the soccer field for Dallin's game only to find out.............
When I opened the back of my car to get some things for the game my FAVORITE platter came flying out of the car and shattered into a million pieces. I was so bummed about that.
Then we came home and watched BSU LOSE the game against TCU. Kind of a crap-ola type day. We were ready for our HUNTSMAN to get his butt home and make everything better. ☺

you guessed it. WE MISSED the game. Dallin was SOOO mad at me. He was absolutely hysterical. We were an hour late. I had written the time down wrong. Here is a visual since I wasn't able to get a picture of him:
Yeah, I suck. And because we missed Dallin's game we were now going to be LATE for Parker's game. We missed the whole first half but luckily Parker didn't care. He made up for his tardiness with 10 quick points in the 2nd half. This kid is SO good at basketball it is a little bit embarrassing. He is an absolutely natural and we are definitely going to be sticking with basketball for sure. Last week he scored 24 of his team's 28 points! I kept telling him to pass the dang ball. He would look over at me and say, "NOBODY else knows how to do it RIGHT MOM!"

2011 Family Pictures
Sitting fees + new clothes + stress of getting home from games in time, showered, hair combed + candy bribes for good smiles = Priceless pictures that last a lifetime.
Nothing warms my heart or makes my gratitude cup run over quite like seeing the smiling faces of the people that matter the most to me. ☺

Those big brown eyes just KILL me!
So handsome:
Parker: The future heartbreaker. I just KNOW it. ☺

Parks sure knows how to work the camera and he STILL refuses to let me cut his hair! I have to say though...its pretty darn cute:
This one would be my fav:
Sweet Dal who was SO incredibly self concious about his teeth. Luckily Amber was SO sweet to him and told him his teeth were cute and needed to be seen! I love that we captured that awkward stage so well. I absolutely LOVE his piercing BLUE eyes too. Dal and I are the only BLUE eyed beauties in the fam. ☺
I'm thinking we kind of look like siblings in this picture. Haha. Funny how you kind of start to resemble each other after so many years. Those big brown eyes just KILL me!

And that's it! Now leave me a comment and tell me which one is your favorite!!
First snow
It cracks me up how EXCITED the kids get when the snow first comes. They HAVE to get their snow clothes on and get out there as soon as possible. Like it's never going to snow again. Riiiiiiight.
We actually were out of town during the first snowfall of the year so this one was the first for us!
Of course Dallin decided to stay inside, wrap up in a blanket with some hot cocoa and play computer. Funny how different they all are.
Now that we have snow, bring on the holidays!!!

Getting really personal
This was a post that I wrote at the beginning of October. I decided that I didn't have the strength to publish it at the time, but today I've been feeling the need to share.
October 3, 2011
What a great Conference weekend. My spiritual canteen has been filled once more. I love having the opportunity to sit back for a couple of days and listen with an open mind and heart and to feel that love and encouragement that I have been needing so much these past few months.
"It may be true that man is nothing in comparison to the greatness of the universe. At times we may even feel insignificant, invisible, alone, or forgotten. But always remember -- you matter to Him!" Deiter F. Uchtdorf
and
"Pondering a passage of scripture can be a key to unlock revelation and the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Scriptures can calm an agitated soul, giving peace, hope, and a restoration of confidence in one's ability to overcome the challenges of life. They have potent power to heal emotional challenges when there is faith in the Savior." Richard G. Scott.
It's so hard for me to believe that it is already October. It's a big month in my mind. You see, it has been officially OVER a year since Nate and I decided that we wanted to add another little Starnes to our family. Over a year = official infertility. Now, I realize that Nathan and I have been SO very blessed. We have these 3 boys who we adore and cherish. We used to think that we were crazy to have had children so young. We just felt like it was what we needed to do. As I look back I now realized more then ever that it was the spirit telling us that we needed to start our family right away. I am SOOOO glad that we heeded the promptings because if we hadn't we might not have had any children at all.
Little did I know a year ago that we would soon find out that the tumor in my husband's brain would come back to haunt us years later. Little did I know that the decision to have more children would soon be out of our hands. It has been a year of many shots, medications, many MANY tears and much frustration. We're running out of options as many of the treatments that had promising results have failed us again and again. We finally heard the dreaded words from our Dr. "Your next and final step will be moving forward with in-vitro." Yeah, and we definately have $20,000 laying around for that. Doesn't everyone?
I've gone through many emotions and have cried more this year then probably all of the other years of my life combined together. I thought job loss was hard, I thought dealing with the tumor when we first found out about it was hard. They pale in comparison to this. This is different then any other trial I have EVER experienced. This one cuts my heart in pieces, has made me very angry and has made me feel forgotten and alone. When a trial has to do with something that seems so GOOD and so RIGHTEOUS, it just seems so wrong. I just didn't feel like my family was complete. I felt robbed of that very personal decision. I felt like maybe I had done something to deserve this. I felt like I was being punished or maybe I'm just not doing a good enough job as a mom.
I can't ignore or dismiss all of the things that I have learned though. I continue to learn, to grow, to be stretched each day. I have such a new found deep and heart wrenching sympathy for couples who have to deal with this in their lives. The constant reminders are everywhere and just as the sting seems to fade a little then someone else says something or someone else you know announces that they too are expecting. It is never said to intentionally hurt yet it still does, and the vicious cycle continues. I've realized that I used to be one of those people who would say those things that you think are helpful but really aren't. "It will happen if you just relax," "You could always just adopt" "Well, you already have 3 boys, you're busy enough." My eyes are opened to this now. I'm grateful for that.
Elder Paul V. Johnson stated in the April 2011 Conference:
"At times it may seem that our trials are focused on areas of our lives and parts of our souls with which we seem least able to cope. Since personal growth is an intended outcome of these challenges, it should come as no surprise that the trials can be very personal—almost laser guided to our particular needs or weaknesses."
I KNOW that this is true. When we moved to Idaho Falls a year and a half ago I met my dear friend Jessi who only had one child and was longing for more. She told me about her long 7 year infertility struggles and my heart hurt for her. I remember saying to her, "Of all the trials in life, I honestly think that not being able to have children (when you WANT to) would be the absolute hardest." It has been such a blessing and miracle to see her adopt her sweet son. I know that things work out for a reason. I just never in a million years thought I would be experiencing a trial very similar to hers. We were one of those annoying couples who couldn't STOP from getting pregnant. I will say however, that having her listening ear has been such a comfort to me as I know she has firsthand experience with these very raw and real emotions. Honestly, I think only people who have ever been through the roller coaster of infertility really know how deeply it hurts. Perhaps another small tender mercy.......I know so.
Conference helps me put things in perspective. It doesn't make this whole experience less painful but it reminds me that I am important and that I DO matter to him. We're on this earth to be tested and tried and even though I'm pretty sure I'm failing miserably at this particular test, I know I have to dig deep, hold fast to faith and endure to the end. When life doesn't go as you'd planned it's easy to focus too much on those lost hopes and disappointments and forget about the blessings that are laying right in front of you.
I love this quote (and I'm sure my husband will too ☺):
I know that I need to keep moving, doing all that I can do, and leave the rest up to the Lord.

Halloween wrap up!
Well, I'm feeling SO ready to get all of this Halloween stuff packed away! Before I do though I thought I'd better do one more Halloween post.
We carved pumpkins the other day. My camera died so we have 2 pictures to document the occasion.
We got our trick or treat on. Well, the boys did. I stayed home and watched Twilight with a huge bag of candy. Not a bad night at all. ☺ The wind was out of control as usual so I was happy I opted to stay home and hand out the goodies. One little girl came to the door with a long Rapunzel wig. When I answered the door she said "Trick or AGGGHHH!! as her wig went blowing away in the wind. She was bawling....I thought it was hilarious. I am so mean.
After the boys got back we went over to see Nate's Aunt and all of the cousins. SO much fun.
Today Landon and I picked up our Daddy from work and headed down to Pocatello to hit good ol Costco. Nate had some work to do over at Fort Hall so we consolidated trips. I MISS that dang store so much. I WISH Idaho Falls had one!!
After we finished unloading groceries I went downstairs to find Landon and kitty soaking up some rays.
Is it really November already??

Halloween Time!
So, here they are....the $7.00 costume clad Starnes Family! I'm all about the super cheap costume and this year I'm pretty sure I broke all previous records held by myself! 3 t-shirts from the dollar store, some felt, and some spray paint. Thats it!!!
I ♥ Halloween! We went to Snake River Landing and did some trick or treating yesterday and then last night we had our ward trunk or treat. So much fun.

An embarassing confession.
I have many quirks. My husband's patriarchal blessing even forewarned him of this truth. Today I would like to come clean with one of those quirks:
Hi my name is Staci, I am 30 years old & still sleep with my blankey. Love this topic, feels like a confessional or an AA meeting :). My blanket has earned its spot in my bed. Much to my parents dismay the blanket survived elementary, junior high, and high school. It joined me during the undergraduate years, accompanied my husband and I on our honeymoon (gasp! I know I know.....), and it survived the law school years. It moved to Boise with us for 4 years and is now currently residing here in Idaho falls tucked under my pillow.
This blanket is actually number 2. Blankie #1 was cut up, by mom, into a couple of big squares and casually tossed away 1 piece at time over a year span when I was 4 years old. Her efforts to wean me from this dependency fueled the desire to have what was forbidden. I eventually hijacked the blanket that was on my big girl bed back when I was probably 5 and haven't looked back.
My mom made blankey with her best friend (Ann) in approximately 1986. They decided that their daughters needed new bedspreads. Ann made a yellow one for Ashley (my best friend) and my mom made a pink one for me. Blankey used to be really cute. It had cute little tiny roses all over the print and it was SO amazingly comfortable. It was MAGICAL. It would stay very cool in the summer and keep me warm and toasty on cold winter nights.
These days, most of the ties are missing, there are huge holes throughout, all of the batting is gone, it is pretty much SEE THROUGH and looks like a heap of old rags when thrown on the ground. It doesn't even resemble the shape of a blanket but I love how it smells and how it feels against my face. I know I know, it sounds a little sick. Obviously I have some sort of issue I need to work through here. My husband teases me, my children tease me, but it is incredible how many times I find any one of them snuggled up with it .
The blanket regularly is the focus of family jokes. Yet it has withstood the test of time, and somehow has not repelled the man who loves me. I don't see it leaving any time soon.
There. I feel better now.
Tease on blankey haters.
Behold the rag in all of its glory:

Fall Haps
We've been busy this week enjoying the FALL!
We've done the pumpkin patch thing:
Had a fun Halloween party with my Activity Day girls! (And was SO grateful for the extra hands to help....Kels and Logan!)
And I've been busy working on the good ol' Starnes Family Halloween costumes again this year. I'm so evil making my husband continue to dress up year after year. ☺
Grand total for all 5 costumes this year:
$7.00
Wanna know what we're going to be for that LOW of a price? You'll have to wait until Friday to find out! ☺

This and that
Well, nothing too monumental to post about. Feels like such a let down after such an great trip. We're just now getting back into the routine. We're all caught up with school work, scouts, piano, and laundry. Except now we have basketball and soccer to try to squeeze in somewhere. ☺What were we thinking??? I'm not sure. We're just down right crazy I guess.
Last night we had a really great night with a couple of neighbor families. I made a big pot of minestrone soup. We had salad, rolls, and cookies. Then we had a little FHE lesson. I've been hearing a lot of rude, aggressive type words being used between the boys and their friends in my house and I was getting so sick of it. We had on of those family nights where my kids actually got it. I thought I would write about it for any one out there who are having this same issue in their homes.
First off we discussed what kinds of words Christ would use if he was on the earth. We read he scripture "As I have loved you love one another." Then I showed them these 2 items:
A trash can and a treasure box. I then told everyone that for the last couple of days I have been listening to some of the words that have been said. Some of those words are "treasure words" and some of them have been "trash words." I put the words on strips of paper and we went around the room and had each person pick a paper and put the word in the appropriate container.
We had trash words like: hate, dumb, stupid, freakin, idiot, butt, get out of my way.
Then we had treasure words like: Thank you, I love you, Please move out of my way, Can I help you, and excuse me.
The kids LOVED this. Then we talked a little bit about swear words and using the Lord's name in vain.
Then each kid got to take a little chocolate treasure with them to remember what we talked about.

I'm grateful for treasure words. When we got home from out trip I heard quite a few of them from friends in our ward. I had a few people come up and say, "We sure missed you while you were gone." I even had one friend say, "I know you probably aren't happy to be back in Idaho Falls but I sure am glad you are back." It made me stop and think, do I really complain that much? Idaho Falls isn't so bad to me anymore. It is home to me now and I was genuinely happy to be back. (Even though I know WINTER is fast approaching. Bleh.) It is nice to be missed. I need to be better at saying treasure words to others.
Fall is here in full swing! We've decked the house out and are enjoying the leaves changing color in the yard:
I love fall except for one MAJOR thing. Family pictures. I don't necessarily care so much about the actual pictures, its the coordinating outfits that stresses me out like crazy. I don't want things to be too matchy matchy and I don't want to do another family picture with browns and oranges. Wouldn't it be great if there was a store geared toward family pictures? Everything coordinates perfectly without running around to 50 different stores. That would be bliss.
Speaking of pictures.........if you are Deseret Book anytime soon you should consider buying this new Illustrated Book of Mormon for your family! (Unless you are a family member...you just MIGHT be getting this book for Christmas) The artist is in our ward and my MAN....yes Mr. Nathan is in the book!!! It's actually pretty hilarious because most of the models in this book are all people from our ward.
This is the cover:
And here is one of the two pictures of Nate. This one is only the back of his head but there is another one in there where you can see the side of his face. Pretty cool huh? He is a bad guy but it's pretty cool to know that Nate is in the scriptures.
Ok. I'm done now. ☺
